SQE1 Component Breakdown

SQE1 consists of two Functioning Legal Knowledge papers (FLK1 and FLK2). Both must be passed. FLK1 and FLK2 pass rates are individual paper rates - the overall SQE1 pass rate of 53% (Jan 2026) requires passing both.

If you pass FLK1 but fail FLK2 (or vice versa), you only need to resit the failed paper. Partial passes carry over between sittings.

Self-Reported Data - No Official Source Exists

These figures are self-reported by providers. The SRA promised to publish official provider-level pass rates by late 2023 - it has still not done so, and received a red rating from the Legal Services Board for the failure. A compulsory survey was introduced in March 2026 to fix the data collection; official figures are expected later in 2026. Until then, providers calculate pass rates using their own methodology (e.g. counting only students who completed 90%+ of course materials), making cross-provider comparison unreliable. Full story →

Most providers do not publish pass rate data. The SRA has promised official provider-level data since 2023 but has not yet delivered it - receiving a red rating from the Legal Services Board for the delay. A compulsory survey introduced in March 2026 will generate clean data; publication is expected later in 2026. Why the SRA hasn't published it →
