Is FQPS Academy Worth It? Honest SQE Course Review 2026/27

TL;DR: FQPS Academy is a rolling monthly subscription rather than a one-off course fee. SQE1 is £79, £129 or £279 a month; SQE2 is £189 or £399 a month, cancellable at any time. Every paid plan comes with a designated mentor, and both SQE2 plans include live 1:1 mocks marked by a solicitor. That makes it the cheapest route reviewed here for most study patterns, and one of very few budget options that includes any live human feedback.

What you actually pay

FQPS does not sell a single bundled course fee. You subscribe monthly and cancel when you stop needing it, so your total depends entirely on how long you study.

Each SQE1 mock is a full paper — 2 sessions of 85 MCQs for FLK1 and the same for FLK2 — with a score, personalised insight and worked explanations for every question. The first two mocks are free (one full FLK1 and one full FLK2, in the January 2027 format, no card required), which makes this one of the easier providers to try before paying anything.

There is also a pass guarantee. FQPS states that if you were unsuccessful while a member of the Academy, you get free SQE prep until you pass. That is continued access rather than a cash refund. FQPS's own pages are not entirely consistent on the conditions — one describes the guarantee without conditions while its FAQ refers to a minimum period of preparation with FQPS — so do not treat it as unconditional, and confirm the current terms directly with them. What that means in practice. For illustration, a two-to-three-month subscription would cost approximately £378–£567 on Preparation or £798–£1,197 on Boost. Compare that with fixed course fees elsewhere:

• QLTS School: around £2,500–£3,500 one-off
• BARBRI: £5,899 one-off
• City University: £9,500–£11,500
• BPP: £12,200–£14,300

What you get

A designated mentor on every plan. This is the thing that most distinguishes FQPS from other low-cost providers. You are assigned a named mentor, and on Practice and above that includes unlimited 1:1 guidance. Anyone can also book a free 30-minute 1:1 call before subscribing, which is a sensible way to judge fit.

Live 1:1 mocks on both SQE2 plans. Six a month on Preparation, nine on Boost, held in real time: client interviews, and advocacy in front of an assessor playing the judge. After each one you receive a written report with a grade for each skill and personal comments from the assessor. Very few providers at this price include live marked practice at all.

Private 1:1 tutor lessons on the higher plans. Four a month on SQE1 Master and SQE2 Boost — law lessons on the SQE1 side, skills or law on the SQE2 side.

Cleo, the study planner. FQPS's scheduling tool builds a personal daily timetable, sends reminders and automatically reschedules tasks you miss. Your mentor also tracks your progress. Self-practice volume. SQE2 Preparation includes 36 self-practice mocks, revision cards and a skills practice tool; Boost increases the self-practice allocation to 56 mocks.

Free advocacy workshops. FQPS runs these periodically at no cost. We attended one and found it genuinely useful — worth doing before you pay for anything, with any provider.

Fair criticisms

These are the reservations we think survive scrutiny.

Provider-reported pass rate. FQPS now states that its first-sit pass rate is 82%. This figure is provider-reported, and we have not found independent verification or sufficient published methodology to make a reliable like-for-like comparison with national SRA data or other providers. This is a wider transparency issue across the SQE market rather than a criticism unique to FQPS. See our pass rates transparency guide.

Shorter track record. FQPS is a newer and smaller provider than BPP, ULaw or BARBRI. There is less independent review material to draw on, which is also why this review sticks to what FQPS publishes and what we have seen first-hand.

No campus or cohort. This is online study with 1:1 support, not a classroom with a peer group. If you want scheduled group teaching and other students around you, a university provider will suit you better.

Who it suits

A good fit if you:

• Want live, marked SQE2 skills practice without paying several thousand pounds for it
• Want a named person to ask when you get stuck, on a budget
• Expect to finish within a few months, so the monthly model works in your favour
• Prefer to pay as you go and keep the option to stop

Look elsewhere if you:

• Want in-person teaching or a cohort of fellow students
• Want independently verified provider-level outcome data before committing — this remains difficult to obtain across the SQE market

The honest verdict

On price, FQPS is at the cheapest end of the market for a typical few-month run, and unlike most budget options it includes a mentor and — on the SQE2 plans — live mocks marked by a solicitor. If you want human feedback on SQE2 skills and cannot spend thousands, it is one of the few places offering it.

The real question is not whether it is too expensive. It is whether you will finish quickly enough for the monthly model to stay cheap, and whether you are comfortable choosing any provider without published outcome data — a problem that applies right across the SQE market.
